TRAVELLING BY ROAD OR AIR
Kapama Private Game Reserve, situated in the Limpopo Province, occupies a vast area between the northern Drakensberg mountains and the Greater Kruger National Park, in the north-east of South Africa. It spans 15 000 hectares of the magnificent South African bushveld, teeming with wildlife, including the Big Five, yet is ideally situated to receive fly-in guests of scheduled flights from the nearby Eastgate Airport in Hoedspruit.
The best airport to fly into is Eastgate Airport, also known as Hoedspruit Airport, as it is just 10 minutes’ drive from the reserve entrance, and Kapama offers complimentary transfers in open game viewing vehicles directly to any of the four luxury game lodges on the reserve: River Lodge, Buffalo Camp, Kapama Karula and Southern Camp.
Should a travel itinerary include Hendrik van Eck Airport or Kruger Mphumalanga International Airport, guests will need to arrange a private transfer in order to get to Kapama Private Game Reserve. That is why Eastgate / Hoedspruit Airport is highly recommended.

Driving to Kapama?
If your chosen route takes you through Mashishing (Lydenburg) on the R36 to Ohrigstad through the Strijdom Tunnel, pass through Hoedspruit town and turn right onto the R40. Continue straight until you see the Kapama Main Gate on the left. Do not turn onto Argyle road.
If your chosen route takes you through Acornhoek, approximately 1 km before Klaserie, the R40 branches off to the right and is clearly marked. Take the turnoff towards your right. You will still be on the R40. Continue straight until you see the large Kapama Main gate on the right.
Please note the small gate on Guernsey Road and the gate on Argyle road are service entry gates. Access will only be through the Kapama Game Reserve main gate on the R40.
Take either the N12 or the N4 from Johannesburg to eMalahleni and Middelburg. Turn onto the R540 towards eMakhazeni, Emnotweni and Mashishing. Emnotweni is set on the Highveld and is an ideal point for exploring the region. The village has a quaint atmosphere and is famous for its trout fishing, and is a good halfway or lunch stop on the way to Kapama Private Game Reserve. From Mashishing, proceed on the R36 to Ohrigstad, and through the Strydom Tunnel to Hoedspruit.
This scenic drive through Mpumalanga takes in magnificent mountain landscapes and panoramic views – as you drive up the mountain passes onto the high escarpment, you’ll have sweeping vistas of the Lowveld down below. At the Strydom Tunnel, roadside stalls sell ethnic curios from the area.
From Hoedspruit, take the R40 to Klaserie and continue until you reach the Kapama Private Game Reserve entrance on the left.
The northern boundary of Kapama Private Game Reserve is a stone’s throw away from Eastgate Airport (also referred to as Hoedspruit Airport). This makes for easy guest transfers to Kapama’s lodges in game viewing vehicles. Airlines such as SA Airlink, operates daily flights from OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg and regular flights from Cape Town International Airport to Eastgate Airport, which is situated near Hoedspruit.
