It’s always interesting to witness interactions between different species of wild animals. This morning while we were taking our coffee break at Wildebeest Pan we noticed vultures descending south of our drinks stop and some of the guests pointed out a pair of black-backed jackals. We packed up and went to investigate. What we found was vultures on an impala carcass (cause of death unknown), jackals rushed in and chased the vultures off of the carcass, in spite of being outnumbered by at least twenty to one. They managed to appropriate the kill as vultures can ill afford even the slightest injury (a possible broken wing) and jackals have been known to catch, kill and eat vultures.
